Peter Moody’s King’s Rose proved too good for the rest of the field when she won the Group 2 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday in what was her first Australian start.

The four-year-old mare was previously trained in New Zealand by Matamata trainer Jason Bridgman.

There is now word that the talented Redoute’s Choice mare may head towards a 2011 Cox Plate start on October 22, 2011, following her narrow 2011 Memsie Stakes victory.

“We’ll keep an open mind about that for a while but her next start will be in either the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes or the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, we’ll just sit on the fence for the moment,” Moody said.

“Today was a learning curve to see where we are at.

“I thought she’d run very well if she ran up to her work. The barrier (11 of 13) concerned me.

“She’s a high-quality mare. I’m very impressed with her.

“She had good improvement too. I think she just peaked on her run the last 100 metres, she was going to win a bit softer than she ended up winning by.”

Trainer Mick Price was impressed with second place-getter Heart Of Dream’s performance, who missed out on the win by a nose.

“He ran as good as he could and he was pegging the winner back a bit,” Price said.

“I’d be leaning to an Underwood Stakes start for him here at the 1800 metres rather than the Dato Tan Chin Nam.

“I think they’d be a bit nippy for him over the 1600 metres around the Valley.

“He’s in for a good preparation.”

Greg Eurell’s Red Colossus sprinted home late for third after being unable to secure a clear running coming into the final straight.

“If he’d been able to get out earlier he would have made it interesting,” Eurell said.

“He’s come back in great shape and his next run will be in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes.”

The Group 2 Memsie Stakes is all set to run at Caulfield Racecourse tomorrow August 26, 2011, and here you will find the best tips and betting information for the race.

Current favourite and our tip to win the 2011 Memsie Stakes is Heart Of Dreams, who is currently paying odds of $3.80 at Luxbet.

Heart Of Dreams has drawn barrier five for the $200,000 race and will be ridden by jockey Damien Oliver.

For second, we are tipping Peter Moody’s King’s Rose, who will be first-up from a spell in the 2011 Memsie Stakes.

”She seems a nice filly, had plenty of racing, had a long preparation last time,” Moody said.

”A lovely mare now and there is a fair bit of quality about her.

“She has had a nice preparation for the Memsie but Saturday is a learning curve for me to see where she sits in the food chain.

”She hasn’t come right through in the coat yet, like most of them”.

This will be the first time King’s Rose has raced for Moody, with the mare previously trained in New Zealand by Jason Bridgman.

”I looked at her videos only yesterday,” Moody said.

”She won a five-furlong maiden at her first start and didn’t stay the 2400 metres of the New Zealand Oaks at the end of it.

“She appears to be a nice mile-and-a-quarter (2000m) horse and she has a turn of foot.”

King’s Rose is paying odds of $4.60 at Luxbet and is due to jump from barrier 11.

Moody will also line up Anacheeva in tomorrow’s Memsie Stakes.

The four-year-old is paying odds of $16 to win the Memsie Stakes 2011 at Luxbet and is our pick to finish third in the race.

“He is going well and in good shape,” Moody said.

”He has matured up nicely off autumn and is one that is on the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate-type path.

“He has drawn wide (13) on Saturday, he’ll have to go back and we’ll see how he gets home.”

Make sure you are ready for all the races this Spring Racing Carnival by opening an account with our most trusted online bookmaker Luxbet.

The final field and barrier draw has been released for the Group 2 Memsie Stakes, which will take place at Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday August 27, 2011.

13 horses have accepted for the race, which is worth $200,000 and will be run over a distance of 1,400 metres under weight-for-age conditions.

The most notable absence in the field is Maluckyday, who just last night was confirmed as an acceptor by trainer Wayne Hawkes.

“He’s not guaranteed to run but it is likely that he will,” Hawkes said.

Hawkes appeared keen to run Maluckyday this Saturday after he was forced to scratch the five-year-old from last Saturday’s Warwick Stakes due to the wet track conditions.

“Missing the run the other day stuffed things up a little bit but we didn’t want to gut him first-up on a bog track,” Hawkes said.

“The horse is fine and we will wait now and see what the track conditions are for Saturday.”

Despite the unexpected absence of Maluckyday, a number of top class horses have accepted for the 2011 Memsie Stakes.

Danny O’Brien’s Shamrocker has drawn barrier four for the Memsie Stakes 2011 and will be ridden by jockey Mark Zahra.

The four-year-old mare will be having her first-up run since her successful autumn campaign that saw her win the Group 1 Australian Guineas and Group 1 AJC Australian Derby.

Also included in the 2011 Memsie Stakes final field is Mick Price’s Heart Of Dreams, who has been allocated barrier five in the race.

The Show A Heart gelding will also be first-up in the 2011 Memsie Stakes after having a three month spell.

Heart Of Dreams has won six of his 26 race starts and has accrued more than $1.59 million in prize money.

Also included in the 2011 Memsie Stakes final field are Peter Moody’s Anacheeva, Michael Kent’s Absolutely and Jim Conlan’s Rekindled Interest.

Just enter the promo code BONUSBET when you join and you will be rewarded with a bonus bet worth 100% of your initial stakes when you deposit between $25 and $400 into your new account.

Nominations have been released today for the Group 2 Memsie Stakes that will take place at Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday August 27, 2011.

The Memsie Stakes 2011 will be run under weight-for-age conditions and over a distance of 1,400 metres.

22 horses have been nominated for the $200,000 race, including last’s year’s Melbourne Cup runner-up Maluckyday.

Maluckyday was due to run in last weekend’s Warwick Stakes, but was scratched due to the Heavy 9-rated track.

”We didn’t want to start him off on a heavy track and the Memsie was always an option, depending on the weather, as is the following week in Sydney,” trainer Michael Hawkes said.

”It is not about where he starts, rather the final goal in November, and how we’ll snake our way there is not clear.

“John Hawkes will make the decision about the Memsie later in the week.”

Hawkes is expecting Maluckyday to be better prepared for this year’s Melbourne Cup, for which he is already qualified.

“He exceeded our expectations last year by just getting to the Melbourne Cup, we always thought this year would be his year,” Hawkes said.

”He had to win his way into the race last year and did that in the Lexus, this time we don’t have to worry about qualifying – it’s done, which is a bonus.

“He only had three runs in the autumn because we were aiming at the spring.

“He probably didn’t come up in those runs but that can happen after a tough spring.”

Michael Kent’s Absolutely, Michael Moroney’s Brazilian Pulse, Mick Price’s Heart Of Dreams, Robert Hickmott’s Linton and Danny O’Brien’s Shamrocker are also included in the 2011 Memsie Stakes horse racing field.

The 2011 Memsie Stakes will take place at Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday August 27, 2011.

Run under weight-for-age conditions, the Memsie Stakes is worth $200,000 in prize money.

The Group 2 Memsie Stakes is run over a distance of 1,400 metres and is held on the same day as the Group 3 HDF McNeil Stakes.

Known as a solid lead-up race to the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup, the 2011 Memsie Stakes is sure to attract a talented field of runners.

Last year the Memsie Stakes was won by the great So You Think, who has gone on to tackle some of the biggest races in Europe this year.

While the chances are slim that So You Think would feature in the 2011 Memsie Stakes, it is sure to be of the most thrilling sprints of the spring carnival.

The current horse racing news is that Melbourne Cup hopeful Moudre may run in the 2011 Memsie Stakes.

Trainer Ciaran Maher said the five-year-old gelding was in his prime after having a nice spell.

“Moudre is going well,” Maher said.

He’s back in work, his action is good and he’s just ticking along slowly at the moment.”

“He might resume in a handicap on Memsie Stakes day at Caulfield.”

However, there is a chance that Moudre may bypass the 2011 Memsie Stakes in favour of races such as the Listed Hocking Stuart Quality Stakes.

“If he comes up a little quicker we could follow a similar path to last year.

“Hopefully he gets qualified and into the Melbourne Cup which obviously is the grand final for him.

“It would be great to get him there. He’s a good horse and he has form around Americain.”

Betting for the Memsie Stakes will open at Luxbet when final fields and barrier draws are released on Wednesday August 24, 2011.

So You Think overcame the odds to beat a star-studded field on Saturday, as the emerging leader of the spring took to the $200,000 Group Two Memsie Stakes (1400m).

Those who bet on the race at Sportsbet would have seen their money go far had they gone away from the runners leading the odds.

Trained by Bart Cummings, So You Think had not raced since finishing second in the 2009 Emirates Stakes, so many discounted the four-year-old when looking through the final field.

The 2009 Cox Plate winner looked stronger than ever, with Steven Arnold taking the saddle and speaking praise after the jump.

It was a devastating win for So You Think, which has seen his odds shorten when it comes to the big feature of the spring, the 2010 Cox Plate. The Cummings hopeful surged to the top of the market with early market odds of $4.20 with SportsBet.

In the 2010 Memsie Stakes Whobegotyou finished half a length back in second; with the pre race favourite Shoot Out coming in third.

Stathi Katsidis was in Shoot Out’s saddle, and said after the race the 2010 JJ Liston Stakes winner seemed over raced and so had to make up the difference over the course of the 1400 metres.

Shoot Out, who has been confidently labelled by trainer John Wallace as the winner of the 2010 Cox Plate, is at $6.50 for the win this early from the jump. Whobegotyou is at $13, while the fourth-placed Typhoon Tracy is at $17 at SportsBet.

It was a relatively disappointing run for Typhoon Tracy. The 2010 Memsie Stakes was the first up spring run for the Red Ransom mare, and while she led for a proportion of the race she tired and sank down the field.

Cummings has pencilled in the $500,000 Group Two Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) on September 11 as So You Thinks next jump. So make sure to follow the in-form runner among the odds with SportsBet, so you can see your money go further.

A scintillating showdown between a number of this season’s top contenders and 2010 Melbourne Cup hopefuls will take place at Caulfield this Saturday with the running of the $200,000 Group 2 Memsie Stakes (1400m).

Fourteen weight-for-age stars have been accepted into the 2010 Memsie Stakes final field including four horses from the stables of legendary trainer Bart Cummings.

Cummings will start 2008 Australian Cup winner Sirmione, Moatize, last year’s Cox Plate champion So You Think and top rated mare Faint Perfume on Saturday.

In a blow for So You Think who is resuming racing in the Memsie, the son of High Chaparral has drawn wide with barrier 12.

The $2.25 million stakes earner, who hasn’t raced since finishing second to All American in last year’s Emirates Stakes, is currently the second favourite at SportsBet to win back-to-back Cox Plates behind Shoot Out.

Queensland galloper Shoot Out is also lining up in the Memsie Stakes on Saturday and is likely to start as the odds-on favourite at SportsBet having a distinct fitness advantage over his rivals who are coming back from spells.

The John Wallace-trained half-brother to So You Think is being hailed as the champion horse of the season after winning both of their first-up starts in the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes and the Group 2 JJ Liston Stakes.

Shoot Out has fared better in the barrier draw with gate six and will be ridden by Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Stathi Katsidis.

With the Caulfield track currently rated a slow (6) following recent rainfall, Shoot Out is given another helpful hand as his record on wet tracks is also superior to many of the other contenders.

One notable absentee from the Memsie Stakes is early 2010 Melbourne Cup favourite Dariana, also prepared by Bart Cummings.

Other headlining horses in the Memsie Stakes final field include the John O’Shea-trained Rosehill Guineas winner Zabrasive also on the Melbourne Cup path, Peter Moody’s brilliant mare Typhoon Tracy and the not-to-be-forgotten dual Group 1 winner Whobegotyou drawn ideally on the rails.

Punters looking to get a heads-up on future spring features including the 2010 Cox Plate and the 150th Melbourne Cup are advised to keep a close eye on the Memsie Stakes as the race will serve as a good guide.

Our preferred online bookmaker SportsBet will open their Memsie Stakes betting markets shortly, so bookmark this page to view the odds and our betting tips.

The 2010 New Zealand Bloodstock Memsie Stakes is due to jump as race six at Caulfield on Saturday and is accompanied on the card by the Group 3 H.D.F. McNeil Stakes (1200m).

Don’t bet on either of these Caulfield Races at the TAB, sign up to SportsBet and enjoy the benefits of betting online including a free $100 wager when you join!

This Saturday Caulfield Racecourse is set to host the next major meeting of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, the day’s race card headlined by the $200,000 Group 2 Memsie Stakes (1400m).

Nominations for the 2010 D’Urban Memsie Stakes were released today with 19 classy weight-for-age runners entered for the event including a number of the highest rated spring stars.

Top-liners ready to face off in the Memsie Stakes on Saturday and give punters an early guide for the future spring features include 2010 Melbourne Cup favourite Dariana, fellow Bart Cummings-trained mare Faint Perfume, 2010 Cox Plate top elect Shoot Out, So You Think, Typhoon Tracy and Whobegotyou.

Shaping up as a scintillating early carnival showdown, the 2010 Memsie Stakes Sportsbet markets are also going to attract a lot of attention from the punters so make sure you get in early to lock in the best odds.

Likely to dominate betting at SportsBet following their brilliant start to the season is the John Wallace-trained Shoot Out.

The Gold Coast galloper could not have been more impressive in his opening two spring jumps, winning both the Group 3 Bletchinly Stakes (1200m) and the Group 2 JJ Liston Stakes (1400m) and should be equally hard to beat on Saturday.

Shoot Out will be ridden by in-form hoop Stathi Katsidis in the Memsie, the jockey holding the galloper in very high regard.

Premier trainer Bart Cummings has nominated six of his stable stars for the Memsie Stakes with Melbourne Cup bound mares Dariana and Faint Perfume, Brightnight, Moatize, Sirmione and last year’s Cox Plate champion So You Think.

One Memsie Stakes entrant that may not perform as well as some punters expect is Horse of the Year favourite Typhoon Tracy.

The five time Group 1 winning mare trained by Peter Moody will be having her first-up spring start and despite not being rated to win still looks a top Place bet through SportsBet.

Favourite for last year’s Cox Plate, the Mark Kavanagh-trained Whobegotyou, will also resume racing in the Memsie Stakes after disappointing in his last run when placing 11th in the Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm in June.

Whobegotyou is again on the Cox Plate trail, but Kavanagh does not expect him to win first-up on Saturday especially if the track is rated slow.

The Memsie Stakes has a field limit of 14 starters plus four emergencies, and the final field of acceptances will be published here later in the week.

Be a smart punter and ensure you get the top price on all of your Memsie Stakes selections by signing up with trusted online bookmaker SportsBet.

Offering better odds than the TAB and generous betting bonuses, SportsBet is the only place to go for your spring wagers!
