Fourteen runners will line up for Saturday’s 2016 Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield Racecourse; offering punters excellent value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.

Black Heart Bart has undoubtedly found career-best form to date since transferring to the care of Darren Weir, and remains a clear and justifiable $2.70 favourite in 2016 Memsie Stakes betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au.

A former Perth galloper, Black Heart Bart was given little chance of success in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) first-up this year, but produced an impressive turn of foot to finish an agonizingly-close second to The Quarterback.

Returning to winning form in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield, the Blackfriars gelding again ran on for second in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) before breaking through for a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m).

Having returned to the paddock after finishing second in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) in early June, Black Heart Bart will be partnered by regular hoop Brad Rawiller and will prove extremely tough to beat from barrier 5.

Stable mate Mahuta is yet to return to winning form this time, but the four-year-old remains sole occupant of the second line of 2016 Memsie Stakes betting at a $6.50 quote.

Mahuta experienced something of a meteoric rise to prominence through the 2015 edition of the Spring Carnival; beginning with a gutsy win in the Listed Gothic Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on October 17th.

Progressing to success in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) and Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m), the Flying Spur entire undoubtedly produced a career-best effort to date to win the Gold Coast Magic Millions 3.y.o Guineas (1400m) on January 9th.

Extending his unbeaten run through the Group 2 Autumn Stakes (1400m) on February 13th, Mahuta had clearly had enough by the time he beat only one runner to the line in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) on March 5th.

Having returned this time for third in the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) and sixth in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m), Mahuta could very well receive the run of the race on Saturday from the ideal barrier 2.

Incredibly another Darren Weir-trained runner, Palentino ($7.50), currently figures as the only other horse currently available at 2016 Memsie Stakes odds of less-than $10.

Taking out the Listed Hilton Hotels Stakes (1400m) at the conclusion of his 2015 preparation, Palentino returned this time for seventh in the Group 3 Manfred Stakes (1200m) before finishing second in the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m).

Producing a career-best performance to date to take out the Australian Guineas, the Teofilo entire ran second in the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes (2040m) and was immediately returned to the paddock.

Sure to have taken plenty of benefit from a first-up run for fourth in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes (1200m), Palentino will be piloted by Mark Zahra but may require luck in transit from barrier 10.
