Trainer John Sadler has underlined the 2016 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield as the likely first target for Charmed Harmony, when the seasoned sprinter returns to racing during the forthcoming Spring Carnival.
Charmed Harmony has delivered Sadler a number of positive results through his thirty-four start career so far; claiming thirteen wins and a further six minors for more than $550,000 in prize money.
Undoubtedly at his best at Caulfield, Sadler told AAP he is confident the Hussonet gelding is primed to return to racing in slick form this time and believes he will lay a great account for himself in the Memsie Stakes 2016.
“He looks terrific,” Sadler said.
“He’ll probably need the run up the straight at Flemington but he’ll run well in the Memsie.
“Hopefully he’ll be just a little bit ahead of where those first-up horses might be.
“He’s had three races right-handed and has run tailed off last in the three of them.
“He just does not go that way for whatever reason.”
Charmed Harmony began his racing career under the guidance of Mick Price in 2012, but transferred to Sadler’s care ahead of what would be a standout 2014 campaign.
Finishing outside the first three only a handful of times through 2014, Charmed Harmony returned in 2015 for eighth in the talent-rich Dodo BM80 (1200m) at Randwick in February but responded with a commanding performance for success in the Sandown Park BM78 (1200m).
Winning four consecutive races through winter and the early stages of spring, including the Hockingstuart Handicap (1400m) on August 29th, the gelding out of Magic Harmony produced a slick late turn of foot to finish fifth in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m).
Progressing to fourth in the Group 3 Guvera Stakes (1400m) on October 31st, Charmed Harmony ended his year with an impressive win in the Group 3 Sandown Stakes (1500m) on November 14th.
Requiring a run to find form when ninth in the Ascot Racecourse Trophy (1400m) at Flemington first-up this year on February 20th, Charmed Harmony progressed to sixth in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) before placing second in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m).
Returning to winning form in the Charter Keck Cramer Plate (1400m) on April 30th, Charmed Harmony failed to make anything of an impact through two Brisbane Winter Carnival starts and returned to the paddock in June.
