Trevieres to Perform in 2015 Memsie Stakes

August 26th, 2015

Trevieres has not been seen at the races for close to two years following a string of unfortunate ailments, but trainer Peter Morgan is confident the horse is ready to perform to a high standard first-up in Saturday’s Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

Trevieres began his racing career abroad in his native France; posting six wins and a further seven minors through 25 starts before being purchased and transferred to the care of Morgan and co-trainer Craig Widdison prior to the 2013 Spring Carnival.

Having contested just one Australian start; an impressive performance for second behind Solzhenitsyn in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m), Morgan told the Herald Sun the team is confident the Gold Away gelding is over all issues and is capable of a big performance in the 2015 Memsie Stakes.

“We have been patient but it is time to step up to the plate,” Morgan said.

“He has had joint problems since. We brought him back for last autumn but he wasn’t right so he went out again.

“He has had two fair trials at Cranbourne and we’re happy enough with him to run in the Memsie.

“It is a tough assignment but he has to start somewhere sooner or later. He is our big hope.”

Arguably finding career-best form to date through 2013, Trevieres returned to racing for a credible fifth behind notable competition in the Prix Teddy (1600m) first-up; progressing to third in the Prix De La Place Vendome (1600m) before taking out the Prix Du Pavillon Royal (1950m) on April 28th.

Unlucky to be blocked for a run late when fourth in the Grand Handicap De Chantilly (1600m) in his next start, Trevieres beat a classy field to the line in the Grand Handicap Longines (2000m) before capping his French career in the best way possible with success in the Grand Handicap De Deauville (1600m) in August.

A capacity field of 14 is expected to be confirmed for the 2015 Memsie Stakes by midday, today (August 26th).
