2015 Memsie Stakes for Charmed Harmony

August 10th, 2015

Talented gelding Charmed Harmony charged home to post a third-consecutive win at Flemington over the weekend, and trainer John Sadler has confirmed the performance was enough for the six-year-old to earn a shot at the 2015 Memsie Stakes (1400m) on August 29th.

Jumping from the gates well in the Louis Polgar & Jason Vance Handicap (1400m), Charmed Harmony immediately placed a strangle hold on the field of six; setting a quick tempo and charging clear in the final stages of the race to hit the line close to three lengths in the clear.

Sadler has been thrilled with the form displayed and results posted by the Hussonet gelding so far and believes he has more than earned a crack at Group 1 company in the 2015 Memsie Stakes.

“I’m going to throw him in the deep end and run him in the Memsie in three weeks’ time,” Sadler told Racing Victoria.

“I know he’ll be out of his depth, but I reckon he’s deserves it.

“He’s just been a great horse for the stable.”

John Sadler’s son Tom took the ride on Charmed Harmony on the Saturday and is excited by the prospect of taking part in only his third Group 1 feature in the 2015 Memsie Stakes.

“Just be pleasing to ride my favourite horse on his home track in a Group 1,” Sadler said.

“It’ll be unbelievable.”

Charmed Harmony has posted an impressive ten wins and five minors through 24 career starts so far; beginning his tenure under the guidance of Mick Price before being transferred to the care of Sadler prior to his 2014 campaign.

Clearly needing the run when failing to beat a single runner home in his racing return this time, Charmed Harmony responded well in taking out the Sandown Park BM78 (1200m) following a brief freshen-up; claiming minors in each of the Carlton Draught Handicap (1600m) and Psc Insurance Brokers Bm90 (1500m) in his next two appearances.

Taking out both the Wilson Medic One Handicap (1400m) and Bruce Gadsden Handicap (1400m) leading into Saturday’s success, Charmed Harmony’s ability to convincingly put away Group 1 winner Ihtsahymn and 2015 Australian Cup second placegetter Extra Zero points towards a competitive Memsie Stakes performance.
