July 21st, 2015

Rising Romance has been a standout performer for leading New Zealand trainer Donna Logan since first appearing competitively in 2013; posting an impressive five wins and seven minors through eighteen competitive starts, including the 2014 edition of the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m).

Dabernig told Racing Ahead the team has been very impressed with the form and class displayed by the talented daughter of Savabeel since she arrived in Euroa and outlined the short, Group 1 Memsie Stakes on August 29th as a possible early Spring Carnival target.

“She’s settled in very well,” Dabernig said.

“She’s at the early stages of galloping and the possible target is the Memsie but we haven’t confirmed anything at this stage.

“She’s going to have an unofficial trial here at the farm early next week and then she’ll be heading down to Flemington to wind-up.

“As far as we can see she seems pretty straight-forward, has excellent constitution, looks lovely and sound and looks a great pick up.

“She’s probably carrying a little too much condition at the moment but that will tighten now that her work’s stepping up.”

Stamping her claims as one to watch from her maiden racing preparation, Rising Romance charged home to win the Group 2 Royal Stakes (2000m); running second in each of the Group 2 Avondale Stakes (2100m) and Group 1 New Zealand Derby (2400m) before crossing the ditch the first time for fourth in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) a fortnight prior to her Oaks triumph.

Returning to Australia in spring for fourth in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) first-up in September, Rising Romance continued to impress in finishing fourth in the Group 3 Craven Plate (2000m) before arguably producing her most impressive effort to date in placing a close second to Admire Rakti in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 18th.
