Text’n Hurley Out of 2014 Memsie Stakes

August 27th, 2014

Scratched from a second-up appearance last weekend after suffering a minor training injury, trainer Colin Little has confirmed Text’n Hurley will resume her 2014 spring racing preparation at Caulfield this weekend, however will not take her position in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m).

A standout performer over the 2014 Autumn Carnival, Text’n Hurley returned to racing for seventh in the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) on August 9th, and was confirmed for a second-up appearance at Moonee Valley last weekend until knocking a sesamoid during a track gallop on Friday.

Nominated for a total of three races this weekend, Little told Racing Victoria accepting into a Group 1 second-up may be asking too much of the Hard Spun mare; outlining a minor handicap over 1400m as a better option.

“She overreached in a gallop on Friday and she was a little sore near the back of her ankle,” Little said on Tuesday.

“We took her down to the beach on Sunday and she seemed reasonably good this morning.

“It was an important gallop. Matty Lindsay rides her in her work all the time and he was happy with her.

“She did look a little bit round this morning, but it was probably because she’s missed the one gallop. All being well this afternoon we’ll front up on Saturday in the 1400m handicap.”

Confirmed to target the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 18th this time in, Little said he will have to re-think a path towards the feature race following the small setback.

“We had a lovely program mapped out going into the Caulfield Cup if she was good enough but as it always happens something goes wrong and we’ll have to re-jig the whole thing now if she can get through Saturday,” Little added.
