July 30th, 2014

A standout performer over the 2014 Sydney Autumn Carnival, trainer Roger James has confirmed talented mare Silent Achiever is on course for a return to Australia and first-up appearance in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) on August 30th.

Returning in autumn for first in the Retina Specialists Handicap (1500m) in her native New Zealand first-up on March 8th, Silent Achiever undoubtedly hit career-best form when winning the Group 1 New Zealand Stakes (2000m) on March 8th before crossing the ditch to secure back-to-back victories in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) and Group 1 The BMW (2400m).

Returning to the spelling paddock after finishing third to It’s A Dundeel and Sacred Falls in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on April 19th, James said he has been pleased with the building form of the O’reilly mare, who will progress to the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) on September 20th before a final target is set prior to the Melbourne Cup.

“She did have a nice hit-out this morning, which was her first hit-out in company this preparation,” James told Racing Ahead.

“I was really happy with both of their work actually, more so because of the way they pulled up afterwards as well. I think Silent Achiever is right where we want her.

“She’ll go to the Memsie first-up as she did last year and it’s fair to say she looked a trifle unlucky in the Memsie. She never really got a go at all up the straight.

“She’ll then go to the Underwood and I’ll make a decision once I see the weights as to whether we go to a Caulfield Cup or a Cox Plate on the way to the Melbourne Cup.”

Securing an impressive total of ten wins and five minor places from just 26 competitive starts to date, Silent Achiever is a four-time Group 1 champion, having previously taken out the New Zealand Derby (2400m) with ease in 2012.

With early betting markets for the 2014 Memsie Stakes yet to appear, Silent Achiever is currently available at generous odds of $34 to win the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) with leading online bookie is currently offering the best early odds on all major races through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival!
