A standout performer over just four starts through the 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, trainer Chris Waller has revealed Sacred Falls will resume in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 30th.
Running on to finish fourth in both the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) and Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) in his first two starts this year, Sacred Falls displayed a keen turn of foot to charge home and win the major Group 1 Doncaster Mile on April 12th; successfully defending the title he claimed in 2013.
Having since finished second in the featured Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on Day 2 of the inaugural The Championships, Waller told Racing Victoria the O’reilly entire will be geared towards a return in the season’s first Group 1 and will progress to the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) in Sydney on September 20th before returning to Melbourne for the Cox Plate (2040m) in late October.
“We’ve got the Memsie pencilled in there for Sacred Falls, if he didn’t happen to start before that in the Warwick Stakes,” Waller said.
“The George Main Stakes is a Group 1 race where he’s already won two Group 1 races.
“I’d love him to win a Group 1 race on a good track because he’s not just a wet tracker.
“That still gives you plenty of time to get to Melbourne.
“He’s had the benefit of racing around Moonee Valley last preparation, he ran second or third in the Crystal Mile, so he’s ticked most boxes.
“We’ve just got to make sure he comes up and is still at his best in October.”
Securing an impressive total of eight race wins and three minor places from just 19 competitive starts, Sacred Falls was unable to hit peak condition over five appearances through the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, however did contest several positive results via third in the Group 2 Crystal Mile, fourth in the Group 3 Tramway Stakes (1400m) and fifth in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m).
With early markets for both the Memsie and George Main Stakes yet to appear, Sacred Falls is available at generous odds on $11 to win the 2014 edition of the Cox Plate on October 25th; sharing the second line of betting with talented kiwi Silent Achiever at leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
