The 2013 Memsie Stakes has drawn an incredibly exciting field with glamour mare Atlantic Jewel set to make her long-awaited return from injury, while a number of other 2013 Spring Racing Carnival contenders will begin their campaigns in the race.

Atlantic Jewel has not been seen at the races since she won the 2012 All Aged Stakes (1400m), just under eighteen months ago, but jockey Michael Rodd is confident that the Fastnet Rock mare can return with a win and extend her unbeaten streak to eight straight wins.

“It’s first-up at 1400m and it’s a Group 1 race, probably not everyone would think it’s an ideal kick-off point but we think she’s good enough to take them on and come out a winner,” Rodd told News Limited.

“It has been a wait but it’s very much well worth it.

“You want to make sure you get it right with a horse like her, and she’s definitely worth waiting for.”

Although Atlantic Jewel has dominated the headlines in the lead-up to the Memsie Stakes, there are a number of other talented gallopers that are set to return to the races in the feature event this weekend.

Stablemate Super Cool will be making his first appearance since his victory in the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington during the 2013 Melbourne Festival Of Racing while three-year-old Triple Crown winner It’s A Dundeel will begin a Cox Plate campaign in the race.

Macedon Lodge duo Green Moon and Seville will start their preparations after being given several exhibitions gallops around Melbourne while Gai Waterhouse-trained Melbourne Cup contender Fiorente will resume after impressing with two recent barrier trial performances.

Other Memsie Stakes hopefuls include: Emirates Stakes winner Happy Trails, tough gelding Second Effort, Australian Guineas winner Ferlax and Kiwi mare Silent Achiever.
