The Group 1 Memsie Stakes is set to run at Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday August 31, 2013.
The newly appointed Group 1 race takes place over a distance of 1,400 metres and is worth $350,000 in prize money.
The 2013 Memsie Stakes is run under weight-for-age conditions and is open to horses aged three-years-old and upwards.
Scheduled as part of Memsie Stakes Day, the race shares it’s program with the Group 3 HDF McNeil Stakes, Group 3 The Heath 1100, Group 3 The Run To The Roses, Listed Heatherlie Handicap and Listed Premier’s Cup.
Second Effort is on track for a run in the 2013 Memsie Stakes after winning the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield on July 27, 2013.
The Mossman gelding will have his next start in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes before running in the 2013 Memsie Stakes later this month.
Trainer Clinton McDonald believes that Second Effort has what it takes to win the 2013 Memsie Stakes.
“He just keeps coming up year after year,” McDonald told AAP.
“Same time, same horse and we’re hoping it’ll be the same result next time out.”
“The softer tracks around this time certainly help, but he seems to be getting better every year.
“It’s the same set of races I won with Regal Roller a few years back.
“This horse isn’t up to Regal Roller’s class, but he’s honest and this is his time of year.”
Second Effort has won 11 of his 30 race starts and has earned more than $657,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.
